Lyon Buchwalter house still standing in Springfield

-

THEN: This photo from the 1970s shows the house at 2132 E. High Street, the former home of industrialist Luther Lyon Buchwalter. He came to Springfield at the age of 17 in the 1890s and went to work with his uncle, Captain Edward Lyon Buchwalter, then president of the Superior Drill Company, which later became the American Seeding Machine Company, and then the Oliver Farm Equipment Corporation. Early on, Luther lived at 731 E. High, next to his uncle and aunt Clementine at 805 E. High (Today the Woman’s Town Club). In 1916, Luther moved into the newly built home at 2132 E. High, where he lived for a number of years. He eventually retired as general plant manager from the Oliver Corp. in 1931 and died in 1951.
