Man arrested for second chase

- By John Nickerson

STAMFORD — Police say a Cove man wanted for leading officers on a pursuit over the summer has been arrested again for doing the same thing.

Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said Officer Jillian Moller was in the area of Tresser Boulevard and Clinton Avenue near the Government Center early Friday morning when she spotted a car without its lights on.

Shawinsky said the driver sped away as the officer approached, leading a pursuit into the city’s West Side, Cummings Park and onto Soundview Avenue.

The driver then got out of the car and tried to run away when he reached the Cove near Kenilworth Drive West, Shawinsky said.

Shawinsky said officers found a cellphone in the car and were able to identify the driver, who lived in the neighborhood.

Another resident of the home let officers inside and led them to Rodney Williamson, 49, Shawinsky said.

Shawinisky said there was a warrant out for Williamson’s arrest for leading Stamford police on a chase in July.

Williamson was arrested Friday on more charges, including having improper rear marker lamps, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and disobeying traffic control signals.

He was held in lieu of $50,000 bond for the Friday morning chase and another $50,000 bond for the July incident.
