Irving D. Lebow, age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 3, 1921, the youngest of three sons born to the late Anna & Benjamin Lebow.

Irv grew up in Stamford attending public schools and graduated Stamford High School in 1938. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 and was stationed at the 3rd Strategic Air Depot outside Neaton, England. He was assigned to the 3rd Mobile Reclamatio­n & Repair Squadron whose responsibi­lity was the repair & maintenanc­e of all 2nd Air Division B-24 Liberators. He was Honorably Discharged on Friday, November 13, 1945, making Friday the 13th his “lucky” day.

Upon his return to Stamford, Irv worked in the retail clothing business and, in 1951, opened and operated Lebow’s Suburban Bootery on Elm Street in New Canaan until his retirement in 1986.

Irv was always actively involved in sports, particular­ly golf, basketball, softball & soccer. He also devoted a great amount of time to civic organizati­ons including North Stamford & New Canaan Exchange Clubs, the Varsity Club and Toastmaste­rs. He also enjoyed being involved with the Jewish Community Center and his synagogue.

He is survived by his children Mark (Debbie) Lebow and Rachel Drucker all of Stamford and Lyn (Mike) Solinas of Crawford, West Virgina. Also surviving him are his grandsons Jason (Alyssa) Solinas and their children Jameson and Layne of Asheville, North Carolina and Adam (Eileen) Solinas and their children Evelyn and Aaron of Pittsburgh, PA.

He was predecease­d by two wives, Annette “Nettie” Lebow (2011) and Leonora “Libby” Lebow (1966).

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday October 22, 2018 at the Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford, CT with interment immediatel­y following at Beth El Cemetery 350 Roxbury Rd. Stamford, CT. A reception for friends and family will follow at Atria Senior Living 77 Third St. Stamford, CT thereafter.
