Soccer star dines with designers on Greenwich Ave.
Scene… Former Major League Soccer player Edson Buddle, who serves as head coach of USL League Two side Westchester Flames, was seen dining outside at Miku Sushi on Greenwich Avenue last week. The New Rochelle, N.Y., native was dining with Miku co-owner K Dong as well as Peter Antoniades, owner of Antoniades Textile Group, and Eva Moyé, a local menswear designer. Buddle is one of only 11 players who scored 100 goals in MLS history.
Out there… The Town of Greenwich is marking its 380th birthday with a virtual celebration. To honor the town and its rich history, the Greenwich Historical Society is asking residents to take a few minutes to reflect on the town’s founding. Every can share their hopes for the Greenwich of the future via the “My Dream for Greenwich” portal on the Historical Society’s website. Founders Day programming will also include the time-honored reading of the deed and proclamation as well as the reveal of this year’s top three entrants in the “This Place Matters” photo competition. In addition, the Historical Society will offer two new online self-guided walking tours of Greenwich Point and Greenwich
Avenue and share narratives that shaped the town over the centuries. The content will be revealed on the Greenwich Historical Society’s website on Friday, July 17. The winning photos, which show the many ways the town is rising to the occasion during coronavirus pandemic, will appear in a fall edition of Greenwich Magazine and will be on display at Greenwich Historical Society campus. For sale… The home at 64 Richland Road in Greenwich that was featured on the hit HGTV show “Property Brothers” is on the market for $975,000. The Property Brothers — Jonathan and Drew Scott — renovated the 1920s-era home for the Season 10 episode of “Character and Closed Concept,” which aired in January 2017.
Scene… St. Luke’s student Moli Ma, a member of the Class of 2021, is the winner of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition for her painting entitled “Hanna.” Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize artistic talent in each Congressional District. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S.
Capitol.” Moli’s painting was the first place winner in the office of U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, a Democrat who represents the 4th Congressional District in Connecticut.
Out there… The Greenwich Parks & Recreation Department is holding its Drive-In Concert Series in the Horseneck Lane commuter parking lot on Wednesdays from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. The musical lineup is as follows: Short Bus, with pop and rock covers on July 15; Gunsmoke, with country music on July 22;
Jukebox 45, doo-wop hits on July 29; and Bearcats, with jazz selections on Aug. 5. Concertgoers must arrive between 6:30 and 7 p.m. and follow the directions of the parking attendants. Virtual conversation… The Bedford Playhouse will feature “An Evening with Dr. Andrew Solomon”
at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 12. The virtual event will feature a special conversation with the playhouse’s Board Chairman, Sarah Long and the New York Times bestselling author, film producer and TED Talks speaker. Solomon, the author of “Far From The Tree,” and “A Noonday Demon,” will examine the mental health crisis caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. Tickets are $5. End of an era… Brooks Brothers is another landmark store in the Town Center that has closed permanently. The Stamford store shut down on June 17 after more than 38 years in business at the mall in Stamford.
