Documentar­y goes to bat for baseball great THE DISH

On the air… Connecticu­t Public Television will broadcast the premiere of the film “Far From Home: The Steve Dalkowski Story” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Executive producer of the documentar­y was Tom Chiappetta, a Norwalk resident and executive director of the Fairfield County Sports Commission and Hall of Fame. The film, 30 years in the making, chronicles the on- and off-the-field feats of the “greatest baseball pitcher who never was,” New Britain’s own Steve Dalkowski. He was labeled a “gift of the gods” by baseball experts in the 1950s and was the inspiratio­n for the Nuke LaLoosh character in Ron Shelton’s movie “Bull Durham,” featuring actor Tim Robbins. The documentar­y features interviews with baseball Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson, Earl Weaver and Lou Brock and Hollywood directors Ron Shelton and David S. Ward. The film is narrated by Old Greenwich resident and former WTNH sports director Noah Finz. who also wrote and edited portions of the documentar­y. Stepping out… Anthony and Jenny Capalbo and

Team CapalboStr­ongStrides will be walking 26.2 miles this Sunday, Oct. 4, in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The walk will begin at Caren’s Cos Cobber on East Putnam Avenue in Cos Cob and ending at the Seagrape Cafe in Fairfield, with a brief rest stop at Bobby Q’s in Norwalk. The walk is part of the 2020 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. The Team CapalboStr­ongStrides consists of family and friends from Greenwich to Trumbull who all are walking in honor of two-time cancer and bone marrow transplant survivor Charlie Capalbo, a Fairfield University student, and his bone marrow donor, his brother Will. Funds raised will benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Scene… The Undies Project is presenting a benefit night of Virtual Cocktails & Comedy with comedians Kelly MacFarland and Jane Condon from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, on Zoom. Grand opening… Lenny’s Bagels celebrated its grand opening at the Mill Pond Shopping Center in Cos Cob last week with a Greenwich Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting celebratio­n. Owner Richard Damato is offering a full line of breakfast and lunch sandwiches, specialty coffees and a wide variety of bagels. Check it out.

Scene… Actor and comedian Adam Sandler was seen last Monday picking up food to break his Yom Kippur fast at Fred 06825 eatery on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield. Sandler ordered sweet and sour peppers, panko-crusted chicken and meatballs before heading to Philadelph­ia with his parents.

Out there… Ignazio’s Pizza has opened its doors at 30 Greenwich Ave. at the former location of the Greenwich Health Mart. The popular eatery is the third location for the owners, along with Ignazio’s The Pizza in Westport and Ignazio’s in Brooklyn, N.Y.
