Miller has served as the representative for Stamford’s 145th House District since 2009.
Miller is a longtime
Stamford resident, and has served as a longtime manager at the city housing authority and as a member of the Stamford Board of Representatives.
She is the first African American to represent Stamford in the Connecticut General Assembly and is associate minister at the city’s Union Baptist Church.
Residents view Miller as a champion of progressive causes, especially through her work on the Education, Finance, Revenue and Bonding, and Judiciary committees.
Last year, Community Health Center Inc. named the community room in its new Stamford clinic after her.
Name: Juan David Ospina Race: 145th state House District Party: Republican
Juan David Ospina, who goes by J.D., is an emerging voice in Stamford’s Republican minority hoping to oust Democratic state Rep. Patricia Billie Miller from her seat in the 145th House District.
Ospina served as a combat medic in the U.S. Army prior to earning master’s degree in public administration from New York University.
Now, Ospina works in healthcare at the Middletown-based Community Health Center while also connecting students with local tutors through his business, Stamford Tutors.
Ospina touts his business experience as the solution to the state’s high taxes and “wasteful spending.”
He opposes the addition of tolls to state highways and the continued sale of general obligation bonds.
