Actor Tony Goldwyn takes Americares supporters on a virtual journey THE DISH
Scene… The Americares Airlift Benefit Livestream, which took place on Oct. 3, raised more than $1.8 million for the relief organization’s programs worldwide. Actor, director, producer and Americares board member Tony Goldwyn and actor and musician Jackie Cruz co-hosted the special one-hour event to benefit the Stamford-based group. Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s chief medical correspondent, presented the Bob and Leila Macauley Humanitarian Spirit Award to five health care workers: Dr. Jean Kenes Eloy, Dr. Maria Mayumi Briones Gillana, Miguel Marrero Medina, JayVon Muhammad and Nizamuddin Abdul Karim Sheikh. The event also featured appearances by “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” star Melissa Joan Hart, “Terminator: Dark Fate” star Natalia Reyes and CNN anchor and Americares board member Erica Hill, along with WWE champion Drew McIntyre and WWE superstars Mustafa Ali, Lacey Evans, Zelina Vega and Xavier Woods. This year’s fundraiser honored front-line health care workers — the heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic — and took Americares supporters on a unique virtual journey to see the organization’s work in Colombia, Jordan, Liberia, Malawi, the Philippines and the United States. Goldwyn and his wife, production designer and Americares Free Clinics board member Jane Musky, co-chaired the fundraiser along with James and Roberta Conroy, Francine and John Katsoudas, and Joy and Dr. Eric Weintz. Out there… The Greenwich United Way’s Brew Ha-Ha Comedy Night at Home Edition takes place on Friday, Oct. 16, starring renowned comedians Jane Condon and Jessica Kirson. hosting a Fall Fling event at the Cobber North at the Griff at 1323 King St. in Greenwich from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15.
