Snowstorm could hit state Wednesday
There are two chances of snow this week, the National Weather Service said.
And the NWS said the storm late Wednesday into Thursday could bring “accumulating snow.”
According to the weather service, “Drier and very mild weather overspreads the area Sunday. Colder weather arrives Monday and especially Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Some rain and snow is possible Monday as a storm passes by to our south. Another coastal storm is expected late Wednesday into Thursday, and this could bring accumulating snow to much of the region.”
NWS: Potential for ‘significant snowfall’
Unlike previous storm systems, the NWS said, a number of factors could favor snow:
1 A moist southern stream system will emerge off the Mid-Atlantic coast late Wednesday.
1 A cold air mass is expected to be in place over New England Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of the approaching southern stream system
Downstream blocking at higher latitudes will keep cold locked in across New England.
The NWS said the heaviest snow could fall across Connecticut, Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts.
