Michale “Mickey” Goldfarb

Longtime Stamford resident Michale Goldfarb (known by her family and her many friends as “Mickey”) passed away peacefully on January 5, 2021, less than two weeks before her 91st birthday.

Mickey was born in New York City on January 20, 1930. Her parents were Emil Koenig and Sidney Ruth Koenig. She graduated from New York University with honors, majoring in psychology and sociology. After graduation she worked for a time as a research associate at the New York Hospital Cornell Medical School. Partly as a result of that work, she met a young resident named Jerry Goldfarb, whom she married in 1951. They remained happily married until Jerry’s death in 1999.

In 1954, Mickey and Jerry moved to Stamford where Jerry began a private practice in internal medicine, with Mickey helping out in the office at first, and for many years she kept the books.

Mickey was active in the community. She was one of the founding members of Temple Sinai and worked on the Stamford chapter of the National Women’s Committee of Brandeis University, of which she served as president and a member of the board.

Among Mickey’s interests was playing tennis, ice skating (she was a founding member of the Roxbury Winter Club), dancing, and traveling. But her first and greatest love was her family—both her immediate family and her large extended family. She is survived by her children Neal Goldfarb and Jane Goldfarb Himmel (Jeffrey), and her grandchildren Eli Goldfarb, Jordan Goldfarb, David Himmel, Laurie Himmel, and Michael Himmel (Leah), all of whom she adored.

Mickey was an intelligent, beautiful, and elegant woman who was loved by her family. She will be missed.
