Stamford man found with weapons after assaulting and robbing woman, police say
Based on the results of the searches, Ruiz-Franco was also charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine, possession of weapons in a motor vehicle and criminal violation of a protective order, according to police.
STAMFORD — An 18year-old who assaulted and robbed a woman during a “domestic incident” was found in possession of multiple handguns when he was apprehended outside his home Thursday, according to police.
John Carlos Ruiz-Franco, of Catoona Lane in Stamford, was charged with third-degree robbery, criminal attempt at second-degree assault and fourth-degree larceny, Stamford police said Friday. Bond was set at $100,000.
The Stamford Police Department’s Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit was forwarded a Crime Stoppers tip regarding a male suspect by the name of “JC” in possession of an illegal firearm, according to police. “JC” was identified as Ruiz-Franco, police said.
During a “domestic incident” on Wednesday, Ruiz-Franco assaulted a woman and stole her phone, according to police.
After obtaining search and arrest warrants, police said they conducted surveillance of RuizFranco’s Catoona Lane home. They eventually observed Ruiz-Franco exit the residence and enter his car, according to police. Ordered out of the driver’s seat, police said, Ruiz-Franco was taken into custody without incident.
During a search of
Ruiz-Franco’s car, investigators located a 9 mm semi-automatic Glock 19X handgun loaded with 19 rounds, according to police. A search of his bedroom turned up two 9 mm handgun magazines, each loaded with additional 9 mm ammunition, police said.
Based on the results of the searches, Ruiz-Franco was also charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine, possession of weapons in a motor vehicle and criminal violation of a protective order, according to police.
Ruiz-Franco was scheduled to appear in court Friday, police said.
