Scene… Writer/director and Greenwich High School graduate “Savage” Steve Holland appeared at Sacred Heart University Community Theatre in Fairfield March 15 for a special screening of his nearly 40-year-old teen comedy “Better Off Dead.”
The fundraiser, hosted by Brian Hunt, president of Believe Studios and head of development at Believe Entertainment Group, featured a Q&A session with Holland after the screening, where he offered insights on the making of the classic movie. Those in attendance included Holland’s siblings as well as some of his high school friends and classmates Chris Tella, Stuart Calle and Joan Patterson.
Out there…Abilis, the nonprofit organization providing services and
support to individuals with disabilities and their families has opened the new Abilis Courthouse Café at the Stamford Superior Court House at 123 Hoyt St. in Stamford. The café offers a variety of food options, snacks and beverages from area restaurants and caterers including Arcuri’s Pizza and Salad, Friends & Company Kitchen (gluten and dairy-free baked goods), Garden Catering, Happiness Is Back Country Market and Neri’s Bakery and Shearwater Organic Coffee Roasters.
Abilis runs six other cafés in Fairfield County in partnership with the Greenwich Library, Darien Library, Darien YMCA, Darien Depot, the Town of Greenwich (Island Beach Concession), and its own headquarters café. Out there… Greenwich Historical Society is featuring “A Brief History of Connecticut’s Public Parks & Gardens” with renowned landscape design and construction consultant Chris Lawrie on Wednesday 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. at Greenwich Botanical Garden Center in Cos Cob. Lawrie, a Lyme resident, will take participants on an illustrative exploration into historic gardens throughout the world as a prelude to a discussion of Connecticut’s most beautiful public parks and historic gardens and the people behind these masterpieces.
