If you are looking for a 19th century home with phenomenal space, lots of sun, nice-sized rooms and a kids’ zone complete with a trampoline and swing set outside, then look no further than 1249 Shippan Ave. in Stamford’s Shippan Point.

“It’s a really huge house and we use every inch of it,” said homeowner Alex Rogers, who along with his wife, Paula Pienkowska, have lived in the one-of-a-kind blue gray 1850 home for five years.

The home is on .27 acres and has 4,800 square feet of living space, including basement, main level, second level, and third level.

The approximately 1,000square-foot basement, Rogers said, is home to the mechanicals as well as a storage room with a built-in wine rack. The wine rack, he said, has eight shelves and can fit about 14 bottles of wine on each.

“The wine room stays at a perfect 68 degrees year-round,” he said.

To the left of the foyer on the main level are double French doors leading into the living room.

“It’s a huge amount of space, it’s 15 feet across and 35 feet long,” Rogers said.

The living room also has a wood-stove fireplace with bay windows and French doors that lead out to the deck in the backyard. Across from the living room, Rogers said, is the mudroom with two big closets and four built-in cubbies.

From the foyer, he said, you either go left up the stairs to the second level or straight back down a long hallway. The living room is to the left and the dining room is across the hall from the living room.

The dining room features a fireplace and is very well lit. There are windows on three sides “and lots of sun,” Rogers noted. There is also a butler’s pantry in the dining room.

Go back into the hallway and you enter the kitchen. The kitchen, he said, has a 6-by-9-foot island in the middle with white marble. It also has storage and four seats. Appliances are stainless steel and include a Wolf stove, JennAir double oven and a microwave in the island.

“It’s a nice size and all the cabinets are white,” he said. “It’s a nice area to gather and where everyone ends up if we are not on the deck,”

The main level also includes a half bath off the kitchen.

The second level has three bedrooms including the master suite. The master, Rogers said, has a sitting room with a walk-in closet and two very big deep closets.

The third level, Rogers said, is a kids’ zone. All three bedrooms are for the younger set. “There is a giant playroom with a huge closet that can almost be another bedroom,” he said.

There is also a kids’ zone outside featuring the trampoline and swing set. And, there is an adult zone with a grilling section. There is also an above-ground pool with enclosure.
