Stamford Town Center mall to reopen May 20
STAMFORD — The Stamford Town Center is planning to reopen May 20, while other malls in southwestern Connecticut have not yet confirmed when they would resume operations.
Closed since March 19, the downtown shopping center will return with shortened hours and a limited number of store openings. Its anchor tenants include Macy’s, Saks Off 5th and Barnes & Noble, although Stamford Town Center owner Taubman Centers has not confirmed when those establishments will open.
“As we’ve learned from other centers that have recently opened, we expect a modest amount of retailers to open on May 20, with significantly
more opening over the next few weeks,” said Dan Stolzenbach, general manager at the town center.
With the exception of Plan B Burger Bar, the restaurants on Stamford Town Center’s restaurant row have remained open with pickup services. Those establishments include The Capital Grille, The Cheesecake Factory, Peter Chang and Pieology.
“We don’t expect any of these restaurants to offer outdoor dining at this time,” Stolzenbach said.
Taubman Centers’ other mall in Connecticut, Westfarms in West Hartford, is also reopening May 20.
Among other area malls, SoNo Collection in Norwalk said Wednesday through a spokeswoman that it “had not yet determined the reopening date.” Danbury Fair officials were not immediately available to comment on their reopening plans.
Messages left Wednesday for the owners of the Westfield Trumbull and Milford Connecticut Post malls were not immediately returned.
Stamford Town Center officials outlined a number of cleaning and social distancing measures that will be part of the resumed operations.
Visitors would be required to wear masks to comply with local, state or federal laws.
The mall plans to have employees clean and disinfect the building throughout the day and afterhours, “with a focus on high-touch, high-traffic surfaces.”
To help guests, officials said they would use signs and decals for physical distancing, maintain hand sanitizer stations, and provide wipes for pay stations and vending machines.
Other measures include closing play areas, turning off drinking fountains, removing furniture and/or reset seating areas in common areas and the food court, and removing trays from the food court.
