Police: More gunshots fired in city

- By John Nickerson

STAMFORD — City police reported that more gunshots were fired, this time on Rose Park Avenue late Monday night, just days after three cars were shot up on Connecticut Avenue.

Officers were called to Rose Park Avenue just before 11 p.m. Monday, Lt. Tom Scanlon said. A witness told them that they heard screeching tires just after hearing the gunshots, he said.

No injuries were reported, Scanlon said. Officers found five shell casings in front of 2 Rose Park Ave., but there were no

reports of damage to cars or homes by the gunfire, he said.

Scanlon said he had no further details and said no arrests have been made. Police are also investigating shots that were fired by 92 Connecticut Ave. in the Rippowam Apartment complex, he said.

Capt. Richard Conklin said crime scene investigators collected 10 shell casings in front of 92 Connecticut Ave., where residents awoke Sunday to find that bullets had been fired into their vehicles.

Conklin said police were not told about the gunshots before the residents began reporting the damage. During subsequent interviews, residents reported hearing shots in the area at 2: 20 a.m. Sunday, he said.

Police do not know what motivated the gun-play, Conklin said.

Since April, there have been at least 10 shooting incidents in Stamford that have left six men grazed or injured, police said. Two of those incidents took place on Connecticut Avenue in April and May, police said.

Investigators believe some of the incidents were sparked by insults relayed over social media and competition over drug sales, police said.

Officers have found matching shell casings at multiple scenes, indicating that some weapons have been fired at more than one location, police said.
