Stamford cops: More shots fired, no injuries reported

- By John Nickerson

STAMFORD — After two people were shot in the city over the weekend, police were to the scene of another shots fired call on Monday night.

Police responded at 10:55 p.m. to the corner of Richmond Hill and Rose Park avenues on the report of multiple shots fired in the area.

Officers located 15 shell casings from a semiautomatic weapon and found two vehicles damaged by gunfire, Lt. Tom Scanlon said. No one was reported injured.

Scanlon said preliminary reports at the scene indicated a lone gunman fired at a passing car. Police had no suspect information to share with the public as investigators pursue the case.

Scanlon said he did not see a connection between the shots fired call and an incident the day before on Fairfield Avenue and Hazel Street that left two men injured. In that incident Jeff Etienne, 23, of Stamford, has been charged with attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault and threatening.

Etienne was held on $1 million bond.

Capt. Richard Conklin said police were notified at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday that a gunshot victim had arrived in the Stamford Hospital emergency room.

Officers found a 33-yearold male who was receiving treatment for two gunshot wounds — one to his back and one to his hand, Conklin said. A second victim, a 23-year-old man, was shot in his forearm, police said. Both victims were later released from the hospital.

The Sunday shooting occurred on Fairfield Avenue, near the intersection of Hazel Street, police said. The gunman in that case was on the street and the victims were riding in a car, police said.

There have been many incidents of shots fired in the city since March. Scanlon said many seem to involve the same groups of people, who come from different Stamford neighborhoods and apparently have disputes between them.
