How state players fared in FBS action

- PLAYER OF THE WEEK — Scott Ericson

Casey Rogers, Nebraska: Avon Old Farms graduate Casey Rogers picked up his first career sack as one of his five tackles for Nebraska during a 26-20 loss to Iowa Saturday.

The sophomore has 18 total tackles this season.

Rogers has played in every game this season with his first career start coming against Northweste­rn where he finished with one tackle.

Against Illinois on Nov. 21, Rogers had a career-high five tackles, including his first career tackle for loss.

Also Saturday’s game, East Haven’s Nico Ragaini, a two-time New Haven Register Male Athlete of the Year, had two catches for 24 yards for Iowa in the win over the Cornhusker­s.

Ragaini now has 17 catches for 189 yards, averaging 11.1 yards per reception.

ICING THE WIN

Penn State picked up its first win this season with a 27-17 victory over Michigan Saturday.

Madison’s Will Levis scored on a 2-yard run with 8:12 left in the fourth quarter.

The sophomore quarterbac­k and former Xavier star ran six times for 25 yards and one touchdown.

After coming in off the bench against Nebraska, Levis started for Penn State in a 41-21 loss to Iowa, but was back as the No. 2 quarterbac­k against the Wolverines.

It was the first touchdown of the season for Levis and fourth of his career.

He has rushed for 121 yards while throwing for 325 yards through five games this season.

In that same game, Greenwich’s Cornelius Johnson, who played at Brunswick, caught two passes for 15 yards for Michigan.

CATCH OF THE WEEK

Hamden’s CJ Lewis made the highlight reels in the fourth quarter with a fallingdow­n, one-armed catch in the back of the end zone for Boston College Saturday.

Corralling the ball with just his left arm and body, the former Cheshire Academy standout hauled in his fifth touchdown of the year for the Eagles.

The junior had three catches for 24 yards and the score in the Eagles 34-27 victory against Louisville.

Lewis has scored four of his five touchdowns in the last five games. He is up to 406 yards receiving on 25 catches.

PRYOR RUNS

Darien’s Mitchell Pryor ran the ball six times for 19 yards for Vanderbilt in 41-0 loss to Missouri. The junior has run the ball 25 times for 113 yards and one touchdown.
