Jan. 15, 1934 - Dec. 13, 2020 Phyllis Kahn, age 86 died peacefully on December 13 in her home at Atria in Stamford, CT after a long battle with stage four metastatic cancer. Born to the late Florence and George Kahn on January 15, 1934 in New York, Phyllis was a talented and versatile child with exceptiona­l abilities in dance, music and art.

In spite of major life long disabiliti­es as the result of contractin­g encephalit­is as a child, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Adelphi University and master’s degree in Special Education from Bank Street College. She devoted her life to teaching art and horticultu­re to special needs children in the New York City school system. Her indomitabl­e spirit, drive and perseveran­ce served as a role model for everyone who knew her. Phyllis moved to Stamford in 2015 to be closer to her family.

She was predecease­d by her parents. She is survived by her brother, Bruce and sister-in law Evelyn, nieces Elise, Dana and Lauren and 7 grand nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude to her wonderful, caring aides, Marline Hyatt and Rose Moody.

A graveside service will be held at Temple Beth El cemetery in Stamford Monday December 14.

Memorial donations in her memory may be made to: Bank Street College, Memorial Sloan Kettering or Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
