On December 31st Sylvia Meyers born October 18th, 1922, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 after a four week Covid 19 related illness.

Sylvia grew up in Bridgeport Connecticu­t and experience­d the Great Depression. She saved everything and wasted nothing. Growing up she studied dance from the age of 8 until she was 18 and she was named the Hungarian Dance Queen of Connecticu­t in 1933 when she danced with her professor at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York. Sylvia moved to Stamford in 1944 with her husband Leslie where they built their life and were married for 74 years until Les’s death in 2016.

Sylvia was a fixture at Bob’s Sport Shop in New Canaan, CT where she worked as the head bookkeeper for 22 years. Mah Jongg was her passion and she played weekly until retirement when she began playing several times a week. She also began teaching the game to many at the Stamford Jewish Community Center where she and her husband volunteere­d for many years. She and Leslie enjoyed many years traveling and entertaini­ng friends at their home in Springdale.

Sylvia is survived by her son Marty Meyers and wife Suzanne Leiber Meyers of Middlebury,

CT, her daughter Sherry Meyers Meeks and husband Phil Meeks of New York, NY, grandchild­ren Carey Meyers and husband Steven Kane of Brooklyn, NY, Matthew Meyers and wife Fran Lartigue of New Marlboroug­h, MA, Chelsea Meeks Kaplan of Bethesda MD and great-grandchild­ren Madeleine and Elliot Meyers-Kane, Mirabelle, Isaac and Quinn Meyers and Zach, Drew and Ben Kaplan. She is also survived by her caregiver of 4 years, Sandra Darkwah whose devotion to Sylvia was unending. Sandra was with Sylvia when she took her last breath just as she promised she would be.

Due to current conditions a private burial will take place. To honor her memory, friends may consider a donation to the Stamford Jewish Community Center at 458 Lakeside Drive, Stamford, CT 06903.
