ABOUT THE MATCHUP: Wisconsin, ranked fourth in both polls and the fourth overall seed in the NCAA tournament, has six NCAA championsh­ips but none since 2006. The Badgers, who lost the Big Ten final to Minnesota, boast the nation’s leading scorer in Soph. F Cole Caufield (28-21-49), a Montreal Canadiens prospect and a World Junior Champion this year with the United States. He and classmate Dylan Holloway are Hobey Baker Award finalists. Bemidji State, 14th in the USCHO poll and 15th in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll, is in the NCAA tournament for the fifth time since 2005 but the first time since 2010. Jr. F Alex Ierullo leads the team with 23 points. Any Beavers penalties will pit their top-ranked penalty kill (93.3 percent) against Wisconsin’s top-ranked power play (31.5 percent).

ABOUT THE MATCHUP: UMass, ranked sixth in the USCHO poll and fifth in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll, won its first Hockey East playoff title with a 1-0 win over UMass Lowell. Jr. F Bobby Trivigno, a Long Island native, won the Walter Brown Award, given to the best American-born player in New England. Jr. G Filip Lindberg leads NCAA goalies with a .940 save percentage. This is the Minutemen’s first meeting with Lake Superior State, which is ranked 13th in both polls. The Lakers won the WCHA playoffs to earn their first NCAA berth in 25 years. Jr. F Ashton Calder leads the team with 28 points, including 15 goals, and his five game-winners are one off the national lead.
