MANSFIELD — State police and University of Connecticut officials are investigating after reports circulated on social media about a fight at an offcampus party hosted by a fraternity.

Several posts on a popular subreddit for UConn students referenced the fight. One said as many as 30 people “jumped” a person who attended the party.

State police said troopers responded to a report of disturbance at an address on Storrs Road around 6:20 p.m. Saturday.

Troopers canvassed the area and were told “an altercation” happened before police arrived, said Trooper Josue Dorelus.

“There were no parties on scene which exhibited any physical injuries or wished to make a formal complaints,” Dorelus said. Police have not yet identified those who were involved.

UConn spokeswoman Stephanie Reitz said the school is aware “of accounts circulating about an incident at an off-campus party.”

She said the university is using the information from the posts and from state police “to determine facts and confirm details.”

“Once the University has that information in hand, it can determine what next steps would be appropriate to pursue,” Reitz said.

State police also arrested two students later that same evening during an off-campus party involving UConn students. Reitz said in a statement Monday that the university received a referral about the gathering from state police.

She said the university will use the information from state police as part of its conduct process, but said records of those disciplinary proceedings cannot be released under federal law.

“However, UConn takes the governor’s executive order’s provisions very seriously, and expects its students to do the same to help protect the health and safety of its campus communities,” Reitz said.

State police ask anyone with more information about the altercation reported Saturday or those involved to contact Troop C in Tolland in reference to case number 2100122717
