Exquisite Tanners Drive colonial on quiet cul-de-sac with level backyard $775,000

- By Robert Storace There will be a public open house on Saturday April 3, from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.

This enchanting idyllic resort-like-property on Laurel Road in New Canaan has two parcels with a 9,244-square-foot residence, guest house, and a 15,000-square-foot HOBI award-winning party/sports barn. The party/sports barn is like no other, said listing agent Susan Leone, of Higgins Group. “It’s believed to be the largest private sports and party barn in the state. The barn is clearly the most unique feature of the property,” Leone said.

The barn, Leone said, features a professional indoor basketball court with regulation scoreboard, raised stage with traditional velvet curtain, professional theatrical lighting and sound systems, bowling lane, golf simulation room, ballet studio, steam room, game room, 30seat home theatre with marquee augmented by a full-service bar, gourmet kitchen, large mess mall, elevator, fireplaces, bunk bedrooms, and primary suite. While the barn is stunning, Leone said, the main house is also a sight to be seen. The colonial, she said, comprises eight bedrooms and 7 1/2 baths, as well an 8-car attached garage.

The 1942 home – which is minutes from downtown New Canaan – has a partially finished basement, a main level, and second level. The main level, Leone said, has a foyer with a grandcurved staircase. It also has a French country kitchen with stone-farm sink, and a family room with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams.

The living room on the main level also boasts a fireplace – one of five in the home – plus vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. This level also has an additional family room that is currently set up as a game room with stone fireplace that leads out to the deck. “There is a lot of movement and great flow in the house,” Leone said. The primary suite on the main level offers his and hers separate dressing rooms and bathrooms. “It also has a wall of sliding glass doors leading to a private deck overlooking the backyard oasis,” Leone said. “There is a second primary suite option on the second floor.”

The main level, Leone said, also boasts a nicely sized laundry room with built-ins, and another bedroom and bathroom are adjacent to the primary suite. “The sprawling first floor has a sense of grandeur,” Leone said. “There is so much privacy and there are wonderful shared living spaces in addition to private spaces to escape to.”

The second level has two sets of two-bedroom suites with their own bathrooms and “amazing views of the grounds,” Leone said. This level also features a workout room with mirrored walls. The home has “stunning views of the landscaped grounds, open lawn with putting green, and woodland backdrop,” Leone said.

If all of that is not enough, Leone said, the home also has a troutstocked pond for fishing, heated in-ground pool, and spa.
