Police make arrest in fatal shooting of Stamford grad
City man, 21, faces charges in slaying of Courtney Lewis, 19
STAMFORD — City police have made an arrest connected to the shooting death of 19-year-old Stamford High graduate Courtney Lewis over the weekend.
Police said 21-year-old Everett Brown, of Stamford, faces charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Brown surrendered to investigators after the department’s special response team “executed a search warrant at Brown’s residence,” a news release said.
“This investigation remains active and there is a potential for additional charges at a later date,” the release said.
Brown was also charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, risk of injury and carrying a dangerous weapon, police said. He is being held on $1.5 million bond.
The shooting occurred around 10:45 p.m. Sunday at the parking lot of RPM Raceway on West Avenue, during a car meet while the business was closed.
A gun was fired during an argument, according to police, and Lewis was shot
and killed. A 17-year-old and a 33-year-old were also hit and sustained non-lifethreatening injuries, according to police.
Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the scene, but one investigator said there was a large amount of smoke in the area from people doing burnouts and doughnuts, potentially making it difficult to see what transpired.
Lewis, a former football and volleyball player at Stamford High School, was remembered for his tenacity on the field by one former coach this week.
Another called him a “real good kid.”
“He was the type of kid who would do whatever was asked of him for the sake of the team. He was a real team player, that’s just the kind of person he was,” said Ernie Ricco, Lewis’ offensive coordinator for a season in 2018.
