Warrant: Man threatened to shoot couple during home invasion

- By Pat Tomlinson

STAMFORD — Armed with a gun, a city man invaded a North Stamford home the weekend before Thanksgiving and made off with a Porsche 911, a Rolex and more, according to his arrest warrant.

Bartosz Kurpiecki, 30, was charged with home invasion, first-degree robbery, firstdegree threatening, firstdegree unlawful restraint, first-degree burglary, first-degree larceny, first-degree criminal mischief and three counts of illegal possession of a hallucinogen in the incident.

The charges in the November home invasion came a few months after Kurpiecki was apprehended by police as he tried to again invade the same home early Christmas Day.

The case began when a North Stamford homeowner awoke around 6 a.m. Nov. 22, 2020, to use the bathroom, Investigator Damien Rosa said in the warrant.

While he was up, the

man heard noises and the lights in the home began to flicker, the warrant said. It was then that Kurpiecki, clad in all black and a mask, came out of a spare bathroom, thrust a gun into the homeowner’s chest and began asking him questions, according to the warrant.

Kurpiecki then brought the homeowner and his wife together, and threatened to shoot them if they tried to contact police, the warrant said.

Over the next hour, Kurpiecki pocketed spare cash and a Rolex watch and took some fine china, then he forced the homeowner to sign over his Porsche 911, which he used to escape the scene, the warrant said.

Police said they began to investigate Kurpiecki when he was caught trying to invade the same home on Echo Hill Drive with a backpack containing a lead pipe, a fake gun and handcuffs early Christmas Day morning.

Kurpiecki, who faces charges in 14 other active criminal cases, has been held on $2 million bond since his arrest in December, police said.

During that arrest, police said they recovered the keys to the Porsche 911 that had been stolen a month earlier.

Based on this evidence, police obtained a search warrant for Kurpiecki’s home, where they found a daily planner that detailed aspects of his planned home invasion, the warrant said.

“Notes: Be careful, keep calm and positive vibes only. Double gloves, remain heartless. Good luck homie you got this,” said the planner under the date of Nov. 18, according to the warrant.

The victims told police that on Nov. 19, three days before the armed invasion, they noticed scratches on the rear sliding door that “appeared as if someone had tried to cut the glass in order to make entry,” the warrant said.

Investigators also recovered a dry-erase board that had written on it, “God dear hold me in your care make me invisible to the law, I’m begging you help me tonight and I promise I will change and I will be a better honest person who helps… Please make this problem-free situation,” in Polish, according to the warrant.

Officers also seized marijuana wax, a chocolate bar containing psilocybin mushroom extract, LSD and ecstasy from Kurpiecki’s home, according to the warrant.

Kurpiecki was held on a $1 million bond, in addition to the previous $2 million bond in connection with his attempted home invasion in December. He is next scheduled to appear in court on June 14.
