Sound Tigers’ season comes to end with loss at Hartford

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers finished their 20th AHL season with a 4-3 loss at Hartford on Tuesday at the XL Center.

The Sound Tigers finish with an 8-142-0 record in their 24-game season, planned as a short schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic that forced the NHL to play its playoffs last summer and hold a shortened regular season of its own this winter and spring.

The loss ended a 5-0-1-0 unbeaten-in-regulation streak for Bridgeport, which followed an 11-game winless-in-regulation run. The team’s .375 winning percentage is the lowest in the franchise’s 20 seasons, though far from its worst 24-game stretch (.188 in 2010-11).

Paul Thompson and Tim Gettinger scored thirdperiod goals to give the Wolf Pack a two-goal lead. With an extra attacker on the ice, Bridgeport’s Arnaud Durandeau scored on a rebound with 2:00 left to cut the lead in half

Simon Holmstrom and Bode Wilde (power play) scored first-period goals for the Sound Tigers, both of them tying the game. Wilde added an assist on Durandeau’s goal, and Cole Coskey had two assists.

Though his seven-game scoring streak, the longest for a Sound Tiger in four years, ended Tuesday, Cole Bardreau led the team in scoring with 16 points, including a team-high 10 goals. Rookie defenseman Sam Bolduc was next with 14 points. He assisted on Holmstrom’s goal.

Onetime Sound Tiger Anthony Greco and Mason Geertsen also scored for the Wolf Pack, who can still catch Providence for the three-team Atlantic Division championship with a win against the Bruins on Thursday.
