STAMFORD — Getting a COVID-19 vaccination will be as easy as showing up to school for many Stamford students on Monday, May 17.

Both Westhill High School and Stamford High School will offer the first of two Pfizer vaccine shots to students who are 12 years of age and older from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday. The second shot will be available at the same location on June 17.

This week, Connecticut further opened up eligibility for the vaccine by allowing those between the ages of 12 and 15 to receive it.

Westhill Principal Michael Rinaldi posted about the vaccination effort on his Instagram page, as did Stamford High School Principal Ray Manka, both with links to the consent form.

“Join us to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and make a difference at your school today,” read the poster shared by Rinaldi on his page.

Consent forms need to be filled out by parents prior to getting the shots, which will be administered through the school-based health centers, run by Family Centers.

Heather Dawson, vaccine coordinator for Family Centers, said there are discussions to also offer the vaccine at the school-based health centers located at Rippowam Middle School, which would allow students from the adjacent Academy of Information Technology and Engineering, as well as Dolan Middle School and Cloonan Middle School.

“The whole model of the school-based health centers is providing care where students are,” Dawson said.
