Prosecutor: FBI probes man’s inappropriate contact with kids

- By Pat Tomlinson

STAMFORD — A New Canaan man accused of having inappropriate contact with children in Darien is now also being investigated by the FBI, according to a state prosecutor.

Assistant State’s Attorney Daniel Cummings said the FBI is conducting its own separate investigation into Quinten Yonkers, a 24-year-old man who police claim possessed sexual abuse imagery of children.

Cummings said the FBI took possession of copies of the digital evidence being used by state prosecutors against Yonkers for their investigation.

It is unclear if Yonkers could face any federal charges yet, according to Cummings.

“The state’s not going to be prepared to make any kind of state offer until we know for certain if there’s going to be any federal involvement or not,” Cummings said.

Yonkers’ attorney, Mark Sherman, declined to comment Tuesday.

Yonkers was arrested in August on charges of first-degree possession of child pornography, two counts of risk of injury to a minor, two counts of employing a minor in an obscene performance and fourth-degree sexual assault.

The arrest came after New Canaan police detectives made Darien police aware that Yonkers was possibly in contact with minor children who lived in Darien, police said at the time.

An investigation by Darien police detectives uncovered that Yonkers had been in contact with local children for an extended period of time, according to police.

The investigation also revealed that Yonkers had made inappropriate and unlawful contact with the children and had also taken videos and images of them, police said.

Yonkers is being held on $250,000 bond. He is next scheduled to appear in court on March 1.
