Lids to open this summer at SoNo Collection in Norwalk
The 1,142-squarefoot establishment will be located on the third level of the Norwalk mall.
NORWALK — Headwear retailer Lids plans to open on July 1 a store at The SoNo Collection, expandi an already significant presence in Connecticut.
The 1,142-square-foot establishment will be located on the third level of the Norwalk mall, in a storefront between Pretzelmaker and Brow Art 23.
“As the premier destination for sports and fashion headwear it only makes sense for Lids to open a store in SoNo,” Lids President Britten Maughan said in a statement. “As a premier fashion shopping and entertainment destination, it’s a natural fit for Lids and the Lids brand. We are excited to bring the community of Norwalk the best assortment of sports, branded and fashion headwear.”
Messages left for The SoNo Collection’s management were not returned.
On its website, Lids describes itself as the “world’s largest retailer specializing in the sale of officially licensed and branded headwear. Every store offers a vast assortment of college, MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL teams, as well as other specialty fashion categories, all in the latest styles and colors.”
Lids also has stores at other shopping centers in Connecticut, including Brass Mill Center in Waterbury, Clinton Premium
Outlets, Crystal Mall in Waterford, Connecticut Post in Milford, Danbury Fair, Stamford Town Center, The Shoppes at Buckland Hills in Manchester and Westfield Trumbull.
A number of retailers such as Apple have closed stores at Stamford Town Center as a result of opening at SoNo Collection. But Lids said in a statement that, “we are happy with our store here (at Stamford Town Center) and have no intentions to close it down.” The Stamford Lids opened in 2013.
Stamford Town Center General Manager Dan Stolzenbach told Hearst Connecticut Media that, “athletic wear is always very popular and continues to be a top-performing category.”
