Stamford BSA Troop 15 honors its newest Eagles
STAMFORD — Two of BSA Troop 15's young leaders have earned the highest honor scouting can award: they have become Eagle Scouts.
The accomplishments of Jordan Paul Bowbeer and Matan Ohring Coll were celebrated June 5 at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor at Temple Sinai in Stamford.
For Bowbeer, earning Eagle rank fulfills a vow he made when he was 8 years old and joined Pack 11 as a Bear Scout: to be the third generation Eagle Scout in the family, following in the footsteps of Lee Bowbeer, who earned Eagle in 1985, and Dave Bowbeer, who earned Eagle in 1956.
During his time in Troop 15, according to information provided by the troop, he served as an assistant patrol leader, troop guide, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster.
Bowbeer is graduating from Greenwich High School, where he is in the National Honor Society, and where he played varsity hockey and rugby. He plans to attend Indiana University's Kelley School of Business in the fall.
Coll joined Cub Scouts Pack 15 as a Wolf Cub, advancing through the ranks and earned his Arrow of Light in 2015. He served as an assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, quartermaster, senior patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster.
Matan maintained a 4.6 GPA at Stamford High School, where he was the captain of the ski team. He is a photographer of sporting and school events for both Stamford and Westhill high schools, and he parlayed this interest into his own business, Matan Coll Photography. He plans to attend the University of Colorado's Leeds School of Business in the fall.
For his Eagle project, Bowbeer organized a team of volunteers including parents, friends and Scouts from other troops to build a “GaGa ball pit” at the Italian Center. The structure allows people to play a variant of dodgeball in a hexagonal or octagonal space that encloses the playing field.
The extra money he raised past the cost of the pit he donated to the Italian Center's camp scholarship fund.
For his Eagle project, Coll transformed a neglected plot of land in front of Stamford High School to a landscaped garden and coordinated construction of a new “Stamford High School” sign for the garden bed.
