-

Regina Tierney Campfield, longtime Stamford resident, beloved mother, grandmother, wife and friend, died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family on June 23. She was 71 years old.

Born and raised in Philadelphia to Marie and Michael Tierney, Regina graduated from Penn State University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She then taught elementary and middle school in Bensalem Township, PA. In 1977, she married Thomas Campfield and the newlyweds moved to Bahrain and subsequently to Japan for Thomas’s job. In 1980, work brought them back to the United States and Regina and Thomas settled in Stamford, CT where they have raised their three daughters and lived for the last 42 years.

Regina enjoyed many passions including sailing with her family and friends, aerobics which she taught for many years, and gardening. She worked for UConn and the Bartlett Arboretum as Director of The Master Gardener Program for over ten years, followed by her most recent role as Director of Volunteers for the Bartlett. Regina was an active volunteer in the community throughout her life, including PTA involvement at all the schools her children attended, Meals on Wheels and running the Mommy-and-Me program at her church.

Regina battled Ovarian Cancer for the last two and a half years with courage and grace teaching those around her the true meaning of strength.

Regina is survived by her husband Thomas, three daughters Danielle (Peter), Jacquelyn (Seth), and Lauren (Brett) and seven grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call on the family on Tuesday, June 28 at the Bartlett Arboretum, 4:00-6:30pm. Mass will be celebrated at Church of the Holy Spirit on June 29 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Bartlett Arboretum.
