At Greenwich Hospital, next generation of physicians graduate

GREENWICH — Seven residents and seven interns graduated recently as members of the 47th annual Internal Medicine Residency Program at Greenwich Hospital.

Dr. Charles Seelig, program director, commended the graduates for their dedication, especially with the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We deeply appreciate your extraordin­ary work,” he told the graduating class.

This year's graduating residents were Dr. Sally Ju Young Bae; Dr. Michael Foti; Dr. Deepa Jansen; Doctor of Osteopathi­c Medicine Ginamarie Papia; Doctor of Osteopathi­c Medicine Waqas Salam; Dr. Leilei Teng, who also earned a master of science degree; and Dr. Chanjuan Zhong, who also earned a doctoral degree.

The graduating interns were Dr. Saheeb Ahmed, Dr. Sotonye Bobojama, Dr. Liam du Preez, Dr. Daniel Kim, Dr. Marjorie Morales, Dr. Victoria A. Perez and Dr. Juliana Runnels.

Dr. Jennifer Hewlett, the departing chief resident, was also recognized at the ceremony held at Greenwich Hospital.

Several awards were also distribute­d during the ceremony on June 3, including:

Dr. Marcelo Orias received the Golden Apple Award, which is the Teacher of the Year award.

Dr. Umar Hasan was presented with the Resident Teacher of the Year Award.

Dr. Michael Foti received the Resident Physician Patient Experience Award.

Dr. Deepa Jansen was presented with the Resident Quality and Safety Award.

Dr. Sally Ju Young Bae received the Henry E. Markley,

M.D., Humanitari­an Award in Medicine.

Dr. Chanjuan Zhong received the Nelson Bonheim, M.D., Research Award in Medicine.
