Greenwich’s Taco Bell temporarily closes for renovations
GREENWICH — Hungry residents heading to Taco Bell to satisfy their cravings for a chalupa, a crunchwrap supreme or a Doritos cheesy gordita have recently found the local location boarded up with a large dumpster outside.
But the closure is only temporary. The restaurant, located at 1371 E. Putnam Ave., is expected to reopen next month and will be fully renovated — inside and out.
Details about the work have not been publicly announced. But according to statements provided to Greenwich Time by Taco Bell’s public relations department, the remodeling work is slated to be done in September, when customers will be welcomed back to the drive-through restaurant.
“Our restaurants will be updated after a certain period of time, ensuring the best possible experience for our customers, which is the case for this restaurant,” Taco Bell said.
The company’s public relations department did not specify the updates. but details can be found in construction plans submitted to the town.
According to the plans that were approved by the town Planning
and Zoning Department for the renovation work, the restaurant will be fully ADA complaint and a new exterior facade will be created.
“(It) will include updated images of Taco Bell signs,” according to the restaurant’s application to the town. “Site work will include upgrade of the drive-thru canopy, digital menu board/speaker post, new clearance bar, new fencing for trash enclosure” as well as new lighting and landscaping around the building and signs.
The changes earned the endorsement of the town Architectural Review Committee in December. Some tweaks were made to address the committee’s concerns, including an adjustment to the exterior after committee members said the original plans were “too foreboding and tends toward the look of a mausoleum,” found, according to minutes from the meeting.
The plans got a thumbs up from the committee for “preserving the landscaping along the Post Road” as part of the project.
The construction work and temporary closure of the restaurant began in July.
Other work, including installation of new exhaust fans, will also take place. Interior work is also slated for completion, but those
plans did not need town approval and no details about were released.
Updates to Taco Bell restaurants have been taking place
across the country, giving a sleeker look to the popular fast food joint.
Upgrades have been been completed at the McDonald’s restaurants
in Riverside and western Greenwich over the last five years as well.
