Eleanore F. Smith
Eleanore F. Smith, 89, a lifelong resident of Stamford, CT, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 5, 2022. “Ele” as she was affectionately known, was born in Stamford, CT, May 26, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Joseph T. and Eugenia Faryniarz.
Ele graduated from Stamford High School in 1952 and then from UCONN Storrs in 1956. In 1957, she married Lawrence F. Smith who predeceased her in 2011. Together with her husband, they owned and managed the former Colonial Insurance Agency on Hoyt Street in Stamford for 47 years. Ele was an active member of the Holy Spirit Church and was the Co-President of the Women’s Guild from 2008 to 2016. In 2013, Ele received the St. Augustine Medal of Service, which was given in recognition for her outstanding volunteer service to her parish and charities throughout Fairfield County. She was always more than willing to contribute her time, energy, and true Christian spirit. Ele was also a member the Norwalk Community Chorale for many years, and entertained audiences throughout the area. She enjoyed being at her home in North Stamford, was an active and accomplished gardener, and had an affinity for English Springer Spaniels.
She is survived by her brother, Joseph R. Faryniarz of Middlebury; her son Lawrence J. Smith and his wife Meredith of Stamford; her daughter, Valerie Bothwell and her husband Doug of Danbury; by her five grandchildren Amanda and Heather Bothwell, and Bradley, Connor, and Lauren Smith; and by her beloved nieces. She will be sadly missed by her loved ones and all those who had the pleasure of coming to know her.
