Man sentenced to 3 years in Norwalk armed robbery

- By Pat Tomlinson

STAMFORD — A Bridgeport man agreed to serve three years in prison for his role in a Norwalk armed robbery as part of a deal with state prosecutors.

Carlye Moss, 24, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree robbery, as well as two counts of violation of probation, during a disposition hearing at the state Superior Court in Stamford Wednesday.

In return for the guilty pleas, Moss will receive three years in prison followed by seven years of special parole.

Richard Stannard, Moss's attorney, said he believes his client, who he's worked with many times in recent years, won't let his “reckless impulses” continue to define him in the future.

“Your Honor will not see him back here,” Stannard said at Wednesday's hearing.

Moss originally faced charges of first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit firstdegree robbery, criminal use of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal attempt at larceny, third-degree assault and two counts of violation of probation that stemmed from an armed robbery in Flax Hill Park where a person was hit in the head with a gun.

Police responded to the park on Sept. 1, 2020, for a reported armed robbery. Police said officers learned the victim and a friend were in the park when four people walked up to them and allegedly robbed them at gunpoint.

Police said there was a “physical altercation” between the victims and the alleged robbers, and one of the victims was hit in the head with a gun. A chain — valued at $800 — was yanked off the person's neck. The individual sustained minor injuries, police said.

Detectives later identified Moss as the person who struck the victim with a gun.

Moss is expected to plead guilty Friday to larceny, failure to appear and violation of probation charges in the Bridgeport Judicial District and is expected to begin serving his sentence after his plea.
