Condensed schedule: The UConn women’s basketball team ends its current tight-turnaround portion of the schedule on Wednesday at Providence. The game will be the Huskies’ fifth game in the last 12 days.

Last year, the Huskies defeated Friars in Rhode Island 69-61 despite being without Dorka Juhász, who was out due to a foot injury.

The No. 5-ranked Huskies opened Big East play this season against the Friars back on Dec. 2, winning the first meeting 98-53. UConn held Providence to eight points in the first quarter as both Aubrey Griffin and Lou Lopez Sénéchal finished with 18 points. Griffin and Aaliyah Edwards each had a team-high 10 rebounds.

Since then, UConn has gone 14-2 with losses at Notre Dame and Maryland. The Huskies lead the Big East with a 12-0 record in league play.

The Friars have gone 7-7 and are tied for eighth in the Big East standings with a 4-8 conference record.

UConn has played the past three games with just eight players as it waits for the return of Caroline Ducharme (concussion) and Azzi Fudd (knee). UConn coach Geno Auriemma said Ducharme was getting closer to returning after putting together a handful of complete workout, But on Sunday she remained on the sideline dressed in sweats.

About Providence: Junior guard Grace Efosa was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after scoring 16 points, including the Friars’ game-winning bucket, on Saturday at Xavier. The Lawrence, Mass. native is fourth on the team with 9.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Providence comes into Wednesday’s meeting with the Huskies after beating the Musketeers 50-48 on the road thanks to Efosa’s game-winning bucket with 4.4 seconds left. Efosa had tied the game at 48 all at the 2:05-minute mark of the fourth quarter.

The Friars finished their nonconference slate 9-2 with wins over Brown (62-44 on Dec. 7), Central Connecticut (77-45) and Sacred Heart (64-52). The nine wins was the program’s most in regular-season nonconference play since the 2019-2020 season.

UConn is 44-21 all-time against Providence. The Friars’ last win over UConn came on March 7, 1993, an 87-73 victory in Rhode Island.
