Carol M. Smyth

-

Carol M. Smyth passed away due to heart failure at Stamford Hospital on February 2nd of 2023 at the age of 74 years old.

She is survived by her sister, Ruthanne Reiss ( John Reiss) and her son, Paul Smyth (Szilvia Toth-Smyth) as well as her three grandchildren that only brought pure joy to her face: Michael and Caroline and Hunter. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years (Raymond) along with her older son (Steven).

Carol was born in Youngstown, Ohio on February 29th which makes her a Leap Year baby. From an early age she was gifted with book smarts and in turn was the co-Valedictorian of her large high school class. She then went on to attend Bowling Green State University where she received both an Undergraduate as well as a Master’s Degree in foreign languages. As a result, Carol became a teacher for over 30 years and primarily taught both Spanish as well as French at Turn of River Middle School in Stamford, CT. What’s more and based upon her love to travel after studying abroad in Madrid, she used to conduct trips back to Spain with many of her students in her younger years.

Carol met her late husband Raymond at a local Ski Party that a friend brought her to; though neither Carol nor Raymond knew how to ski and neither initially wanted to be there. Soon enough they were dating and married and raised a family in Stamford.

Although her many medical ailments over the past 15 years took away from any recent traveling as well as most friendly rendezvous and/or gatherings, Carol always seemed to be a phone call away and especially to help those in need. A belief that was passed down by her late parents (Edward and Orma Miller) whom were very strong in faith and whom were fixtures in the local Church.

Carol will be eternally missed by all and may God watch over her soul.

Visitation will be held from 5pm-7 pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT (203)-3599999. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at St Leo Parish 24 Roxbury Rd., Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at St John Cemetery, Darien.
