STAMFORD — The home right on the edge of Farms Road in Stamford has been around since 1721. The plot of land was bought by John Ingersoll, a prominent farmer in the Stamford and Greenwich community, during the early 18th century.

Ingersoll took advantage of the prime location at 207 Farms Road, which was between the Mianus River and across the street from 10 acres of land, to grow wheat and corn, according to the Chris Carozza Realty Group.

The family continued to symbolize America’s Industrial Revolution during the late 1800s, as Simon Ingersoll, invented the first steam-powered percussion rock drill, per The Carozza Team. This led to the creation of the industry company Ingersoll-Rand, now worth more than $22 billion, according to Stock Analysis.

Despite 207 Farms Road’s more than three centuries in age, the home has both a modern comfort along with its historic charm. The main home, nicknamed The Stone House, has six bedrooms, five bathrooms, library, and two living rooms.

The newer, more modern side has a two-car garage, additional living room and storage. The original and modern wings are connected through a glass-enclosed corridor, according to the listing’s floor plan.

From the front door and down the corridor, guests are welcomed into The Great Room with a two-story, cathedral ceiling and an eight-foot wide custom fireplace. The Great Room opens into the kitchen and dining room that accommodates up to 20 people. The Carozza Team describes this three-room stretch “ideal for winter family dinners.”

For summer dinner parties, the owners have hosted guests in the stone outbuilding, detached from the property. Nicknamed “The Ruins,” the roofless, stone structure was believed to shelter colonial troops after the Battle of White Plains in 1776, according to The Carozza Team. The Ruins is ideal for candlelit dinners during the warmer months.

The Carozza team said the current owner is an avid gardener and has spent the past eight years extending the gardens. In the upcoming spring, the yard will be full of daffodils and tulips. In the fall, pear, apple and peach trees will begin to ripen. Vivid colors illuminate the more than two acres of land.

Each of the first floor rooms have floor-to-ceiling French doors that look out and lead to the back terrace with an in-ground pool and lounge area. The home offers enjoyable views year round.
