Always in tight control of her image, Angelina Jolie has rarely spoken about her 2016 split from Brad Pitt — much less their bitter custody battle over their brood of six. But the normally tight-lipped Maleficent: Mistress of Evil star opened up in a June 19 interview. “I separated for the wellbeing of my family,” the 45-year-old told Vogue. “It was the right decision. I continue to focus on their healing.” They’ve already come a long way. Just three days later, Brad was spotted on his motorcycle heading into Angie’s gated community in Los Feliz. A source tells Star the duo had a drama-free two-hour sit-down about Maddox,

18, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 14, and twins Knox and Vivienne, who turn 12 on July 12. The talk was a big step for the pair, whose attorneys last faced off in court in early March. “They realized it was unnecessary to bicker back and forth between lawyers,” says the source, “and a total waste of time, energy and money.”

Among the topics under discussion: the children’s pleas to go to private school instead of being educated at home

(Maddox is enrolled at

Yonsei University in South Korea). “The younger kids can’t wait to see their dad now,” says the source. “Things are still tense where the older boys are concerned, but Brad’s sensitive and isn’t rushing it.” (The Oscar winner was infamously investigated by CPS after allegedly facing off with Maddox aboard a private jet in 2016; he later quit drinking.)

For her part, the source says, Angie is “proud” of Brad and his commitment to sobriety. “He’s great with the kids,” says the source. “He’s now the dad she always wanted him to be.” ★
