PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – With the first day of competition completed, the Mississippi State women's tennis team's duo of Jasmine Lee and Lisa Marie Rioux upset the No. 1 seed in qualifying doubles play to move on to today's second round.

The day started with doubles as State's Lee and Rioux posted a big upset over Wake Forest's top-seeded and 22ndranked tandem of Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko 8-4 Tuesday morning. On Wednesday, the Bulldog pair will face Florida's 37th-ranked tandem of Anna Danilina and Spencer Liang.

“Today we had a really solid performance from Jasmine and Lisa Marie,” MSU assistant coach Sachin Kirtane said. “They were able to beat a really good team from Wake Forest and continue to get better as they play. We look forward to coming out tomorrow and getting to play again.”

In singles play Tuesday, MSU's 75th-ranked Anastasia Rentouli was upended by Texas' 82nd-ranked Neda Koprcina 6-3, 6-2 in first-round qualifying action. Rentouli

will not compete in consolation play due to sickness. State's 84th-ranked Madison Harrison was scheduled to face DePaul’s 66th-ranked Yulia Shupenia but had to withdraw

due to injury.

The Bulldog All-American Lee, ranked eighth nationally, is already entered into the tournament's singles main draw, which begins Thursday. She and Rioux need two more wins in doubles qualifying to advance to the main draw.
