Doubles play was all that was allowed on Saturday afternoon at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre as rain halted action between 15th-ranked Mississippi State (14-3, 5-0 SEC) and 49th-ranked Ole Miss (7-6, 2-4 SEC).

The Bulldogs and Rebels will pick up in singles action this morning at 10 a.m.

Saturday’s match began with a hard-fought doubles session as Ole Miss edged out MSU for the point. The Rebel tandem of Ricardo Jorge and Zvonimir Babic downed Mate Cutura and Vaughn Hunter 6-3, before Ole Miss’ Filip Kraljevic and Tim Sandkaulen defeated Nuno Borges and Giovanni Oradini 6-4 for the doubles point. No. 31 Niclas Braun and Trevor Foshey’s match against No. 13 Fabian Fallert and Grey Hamilton was suspended at 5-5.

Women’s Tennis

After a historic and convincing win Friday, the 25th-ranked Mississippi State women’s tennis team (11-4, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) continues conference road play today at No. 3 Georgia (12-3, 6-1 SEC) at UGA’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex at noon.

The Bulldogs are coming off their first shutout of Tennessee in program history and the first win in Knoxville since 1987. MSU looks to extend a three-match win streak today, all three having come against ranked foes.

Behind the stellar doubles of play of the duo Madison Harrison and Sara Lizariturry, plus 11th-ranked Jasmine Lee and Lisa Marie Rioux, State secured its first doubles point on the road this season against the Volunteers.

MSU kept up its dominate performance in singles, taking the first three matches in straight sets. State’s Harrison recorded her first conference victory of the season, while No. 32 Lee notched her seventh win against a ranked opponent, and Rioux clinched her second match of the season.

Bulldogs Anastasia Rentouli, Khrystyna Vozniak and Lizariturry round out the singles lineup. All held leads Friday when play was suspended.

Georgia is coming off of a 4-2 victory against No. 28 Ole Miss Friday night.
