Maben Methodists have Breakfast with the Deputies

- By TERRY HARPOLE For the Starkville Daily News

There have been lot of places, lately having “COFFEE WITH THE DEPUTIES,” but, Maben Methodist Church, pastored by Rev. Scarlet Shepperd, went a little further.

On Sunday Morning, April 23rd, at their regular 4th Sunday Morning breakfast, the program was by, Oktibbeha County Deputy, Chain Owens.

When this program was planned, a month ago, it was in the plans, for deputies of Webster and Oktibbeha counties to have the program.

But, as many people know, the life, and daily activities of a law enforcement officer is unpredictable, and Oktibbeha County Deputy Chain Owens was the only one to show up.

Both county sheriff office deputies had many who had just got off from work, and there are some, who, had been going through a lot of experiences.

But Deputy Owens, who is a graduate of East Webster High School, in Cumberland, and very well known, in the area, came to the meeting early, and renewed acquaintances with the people present.

Deputy Owens talked to the group, about the job, and all the difficulties they met at times.

He assured the group, that if they ever needed any help, he would be happy to assist, and even would provide his cell phone number.

The town of Maben might be a small place, but the people of Maben feel fortunate, as they have a very capable police department, and also, have deputies from both Oktibbeha and Webster Counties living nearby.
