Kentucky stadium getting new name

-

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky's Commonwealth Stadium is getting a new name: Kroger Field.

The school said in a news release Monday that an agreement between Kroger and university marketing partner JMI Sports is for $1.85 million annually for up to 12 years.

The name change still must be approved by the university board of trustees.

The school said the playing field name will be changed to C.M. Newton Grounds at Kroger Field. It was named C.M. Newton Field in honor of the former athletics director in 2000.

The agreement also makes Kroger the university's official fuel partner, official grocery partner of campus move-in and official nutrition and pharmacy partner of university athletics.

ATHENS, Ga. — The son of former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield faces a one-game suspension from Georgia's football team after his arrest on misdemeanor marijuana charges.

A team spokesman says coach Kirby Smart is aware of the arrest. Under Georgia's drug and alcohol policy, Holyfield would be suspended one game for a first violation. Georgia opens against Appalachian State on Sept. 2.

Holyfield rushed for 29 yards on six carries as a freshman and will contest for playing time at one of the deepest positions on the team. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel are Georgia's top running backs.
