The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announceme­nts should be submitted via e-mail to life@starkville­dailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publicatio­n and be no more than 50 words in length. Religious events will be listed Saturdays on the Faith page. Recurring events will run on Sundays only. One-time events will run Monday through Friday.

◆ Class of 1961 Reunion — The reunion will be held May 19 to May 21. May 21, Pastor Ken Smith, class president, will lead a memorial service for deceased class members and provide an inspiratio­nal message at a breakfast

◆ Summer Camp Registrati­on Open — Registrati­on open for our June/July 2017 summer camps at Starkville Academy. We will offer a variety of camps for students of all ages and skill levels. ◆ Free Basic Computer Class — On May 1, 15 & 22 Adults are invited to gain knowledge while working spreadshee­ts, modify columns, rows & cells, creating simple formulas, manipulati­ng data, sorting and filtering. Classes will be held at Emerson Family School from 1:00 - 3:00 P.M. and Hakran Kim will be Instructor.

◆ Kiwanis Meeting — Starkville Kiwanis Club will meet May 16 at noon at the Hilton Garden Inn. Our speaker will be Sid Salter, Office of Public Relations. Guests are welcome

◆ Active Parenting — Classes will be held at Emerson Family School to help prevent Bullying and more on May 2,9,16 & 23. We will be giving out phamplets titled “What Parents Should Know About Bullying” The class begins at 11:00 A.M and end at 12:00 P.M. Elmarie Carr Brooks will be the presenter

◆ Emerson Community Story Hour — On May 3,10,17 & 24, Pre-School children are invited to receive free books from Emerson Family Resource Center. The event is sponsored by Kiwanis of Starkville and will begin at 3:30 P.M. and end at 4:00 P.M. Faye Parker and Guest Readers will be the presenters

◆ Annual Community Action Day — The Prairie Opportunit­y Community Action Agency is planning their Annual Community Action Day on May 26 at McKee Park from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

◆ Alcoholics Anonymous — Alcoholics Anonymous will now meet every Saturday at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church

◆ Casserole Kitchen — The Episcopal Church of the Resurrecti­on hosts a casserole kitchen every Saturday at Parish hall at 11:30 a.m.

◆ On the Grill at Parker-McGill — Parker-McGill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will host a weekly “On the Grill” every Saturday. Free food will be provided and visitors can meet the Parker-McGill staff

◆ Class of 1961 Reunion — The reunion will be held May 19 to May 21. May 20, classmates will meet for lunch and later enjoy reunion picnic dinners at the home of Barry and Margaret Ann Wood

◆ Educationa­l Game Changers Dinner — Oktibbeha County Youth Council NAACP will celebrate 2017 graduates May 20, 5 p.m. at the American Legion Post 240. Guest speaker is Rev Tyrone Stallings, Former Oktibbeha County Branch NAACP President, pastor of New Zion UMC. Allexie Williams and Mitchell Young will entertain. Tickets: $5 children, $15 adults. ◆ Annual Membership Meeting — The Memorial Gardens Cemetery will have its annual membership meeting on May 20 at 9 a.m. All members are encouraged to attend

◆ Geneology Fair — Mississipp­i State University Libraries will host E.O. Templeton Jr. History and Genealogy Fair on June 3, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To attend is free, but space is limited.
