Baldwin to graduate after service on NAACP Youth Council
Starkville High School Senior Kwana Baldwin, 19, will graduate Friday, leaving a legacy of work with the NAACP Youth Council.
Baldwyn has served as the council’s assistant secretary for six years, and credits her involvement in the organization to helping her become a better person.
“I like that we get out and interact with the community, take trips out of town and interact with our students,” Baldwin said.
Baldwin added that she came to the Youth Council due to her father’s friendship with its advisor Shavell Rice.
“It’s important to me because it’s helped me become a better person than I was before I Joined the NAACP,” Baldwin said.
Baldwin plans to attend East Mississippi Community College and transfer into Mississippi State University or Chicago State University with the goal of opening a cake shop after graduating. Baldwin became interested in decorating and designing cakes after helping out in her aunt’s cake shop in Chicago during the summers.
She called her upcoming graduation from SHS “eye-opening and said she couldn’t quite explain the feeling of graduating.
Along with other Youth Council graduates, Baldwin was honored at a banquet held Saturday night.
Outside of her school and youth council responsibilities, Baldwin enjoys spending time with her son, Kingston, 1.
