AROUND TOWN ANNOUNCEMENT POLICIES
The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announcements should be submitted via e-mail to life@starkvilledailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publication and be no more than 50 words in length. Religious events will be listed Saturdays on the Faith page. Recurring events will run on Sundays only. One-time events will run Monday through Friday.

Summer Camp Registration Open — Registration open for our June/July 2017 summer camps at Starkville Academy. We will offer a variety of camps for students of all ages and skill levels. You can download a full list of our camps at starkvilleacademy.org and may register online or download forms. Free Basic Computer Class — On May 1, 15 & 22 Adults are invited to gain knowledge while working spreadsheets, modify columns, rows & cells, creating simple formulas, manipulating data, sorting and filtering. Classes will be held at Emerson Family School from 1:00 - 3:00 P.M. and Hakran Kim will be Instructor.
Rotary — The Starkville Rotary Club meets at 11:45 a.m. at the Starkville Country Club

Kiwanis Meeting — Starkville Kiwanis Club will meet May 16 at noon at the Hilton Garden Inn. Our speaker will be Sid Salter, Office of Public Relations. Guests are welcome
Active Parenting — Classes will be held at Emerson Family School to help prevent Bullying and more on May 2,9,16 & 23. We will be giving out phamplets titled “What Parents Should Know About Bullying” The class begins at 11:00 A.M and end at 12:00 P.M. Elmarie Carr Brooks will be the presenter

Emerson Community Story Hour — On May 3,10,17 & 24, Pre-School children are invited to receive free books from Emerson Family Resource Center. The event is sponsored by Kiwanis of Starkville and will begin at 3:30 P.M. and end at 4:00 P.M. Faye Parker and Guest Readers will be the presenters

Annual Community Action Day — The Prairie Opportunity Community Action Agency is planning their Annual Community Action Day on May 26 at McKee Park from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Alcoholics Anonymous — Alcoholics Anonymous will now meet every Saturday at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church
Casserole Kitchen — The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection hosts a casserole kitchen every Saturday at Parish hall at 11:30 a.m.
On the Grill at Parker-McGill — Parker-McGill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will host a weekly “On the Grill” every Saturday. Free food will be provided and visitors can meet the Parker-McGill staff

Plant Sale — A Plant Sale will be held 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Starkville Community Market. This is the second of two sales scheduled by the Oktibbeha Master Gardeners and interns. A wide array of plants including annuals, perennials, herbs, etc. will be available. Sale proceeds will support scholarship awards
Annual Membership Meeting — The Memorial Gardens Cemetery will have its annual membership meeting on May 20 at 9 a.m. All members are encouraged to attend

COCO Awards Program — The annual
awards program sponsored by Council of Community Organizations (COCO) will be held on Saturday June 3, 2017 at the Center. The program will start at 6 pm features Starkville High School JROTC and the announcement of the scholarship winners. The program is open to the public

Geneology Fair — Mississippi State University Libraries will host E.O. Templeton Jr. History and Genealogy Fair on June 3, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To attend is free, but space is limited. There is an optional $8 lunch option, catered by Sweet Peppers Deli, that is available. Lunch can be paid for at the conference with cash or check
