Lee to compete in NCAA Singles Championship
Making her third consecutive NCAA Individual appearance, Mississippi State women's tennis senior Jasmine Lee will represent the school in Athens, Ga., this week in the 64-player 2017 NCAA Singles Championship at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus.
Ranked seventh in the latest ITA National Singles Rankings, Lee begins competition today. Lee is set to take on Southern California's 33rd-ranked Jessica Failla in her opening round match at 9 a.m. Lee looks to better her quarterfinal finish from last season's NCAA Singles Championship.
Lee continues her stellar career at MSU becoming the first women's tennis player to earn multiple ITA All-America honors in singles as the No. 7 seed in this year's tournament. Selected All-Southeastern Conference first team for the third season in a row, the Kaohsiung, Taiwan, native is 23-6 overall this season in singles and was 19-3 in dual match play at the top position for the Bulldogs. Lee was also picked the ITA's Southern Region Senior Player of the Year. Lee has also achieved a school-record national singles ranking of No. 7 in the last ITA singles rankings.
MSU will also be represented in the 32team NCAA Doubles Championship starting Thursday. State's second-ranked duo of Lee and Lisa Marie Rioux will face Kansas' 37thranked Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum and Nina Khmelnitckaia in the first round at a time to be announced. The State tandem posted a 24-5 record together this season with 10 wins coming against ranked opponents.
As the No. 2 seed, Lee and Rioux become the first MSU duo since 1989 NCAA Doubles Champions Jackie Holden and Claire Pollard to earn ITA All-America honors in doubles.
