Does God Exist?

Several years ago my wife and I attended a funeral of one of her uncles.

It was a sad day, but the toughest part for my wife and I was the uncertainty of knowing whether this man was going to be with God or not.

Even though he ensured that his children went to church and never questioned his wife about going, he maintained that there was no God.

“If there was a God there wouldn’t be any suffering in the world,” he said. “If there was a God there would be peace and harmony among all the people and everything would be OK and there would be no misunderstandings, no corruption, and no stealing.”

As we were told this we understood that he wanted God to give us a perfect world. The Bible tells us that God did give us a perfect world and all we had to do was live by His instructions and it would remain that way.

Our human nature didn’t obey God and trusted in the world to get us by instead of listening to Him.

Today there are many people like my wife’s uncle who question the existence of God.

I am reminded of a story about a man that went into a barber shop and as he was sitting in the chair having his hair trimmed the barber said, “I don’t believe that God exists.”

The customer asked, “Why do you say that?” The barber replied that all he had to do was go out onto the streets and see all of the sick people, the abandoned children, the suffering, and the pain.

The customer left and he soon encountered a man on the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard.

He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer went back into the shop and stated, “Barbers don’t exist!”

The barber replied, “We do exist. I am here and I am a barber and I just worked on you!”

The customer replied that barbers don’t exist because there would be not be people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards.

“Ah, but barbers do exist! That’s what happens when people do not come to me.”

“Exactly!” affirmed the customer. “That’s the point! God, too, does exist! That’s what happens when people do not go to Him and don’t look to Him for help. That’s why there’s so much pain and suffering in the world.”

God does exist and He loves all of His children. All we have to do is have faith and accept Him as our Lord and Savior!

Prayer: Thank you Lord for loving and caring for me. I pray that the ones that do not know you personally will see you and accept you as the one and only living God. Amen.
