ICC’s Hollenhead honored again

FULTON – Former East Webster High School softball player Mamie Hollenhead and two of her Itawamba Community College teammates were selected to the 2017 National Fastpitch Coaches Associatio­n National Junior College Athletic Associatio­n Division II All-American teams, released Wednesday by the NFCA.

Sophomore third baseman Hollenhead earned first team honors while fellow sophomore second baseman Alex Brown and right-handed pitcher Carleigh Mills garnered second team accolades.

Hollenhead led the team with a .469 batting average with a team-high 90 hits, 25 doubles, six triples, two home runs, a team-best 71 RBI, four walks, and had 16 stolen bases this season. She had a .480 on-base percentage and a .693 slugging percentage to go along with a .971 fielding percentage with 65 putouts, 104 assists, and nine double plays and only five errors in 174 total chances.

Brown, the Mississipp­i Associatio­n of Community and Junior Colleges Co-Player of the Year, hit .440 with 70 hits, 69 runs, 26 doubles, one triple, a team-high six home runs, 44 RBI, 24 hit by pitch, 15 walks and added a team-best 29 stolen bases as a sophomore. She had a .542 on-base percentage and a .730 slugging percentage to go along with a .982 fielding percentage with 117 putouts, 105 assist, 18 double plays, and only four errors in 226 total chances.

For Hollenhead and Brown, this is the second time to be selected NFCA All-Americans.

Mills finished her final season in Fulton with 19-9 record and a 2.29 ER! A to go along with 110 strikeouts and a .962 field percentage in 155.2 innings of work. Over her two years at ICC, Mills won a program record 34 games and set the team record for most wins in a single season at 19.
