Ms. Valeria Hickman, 92, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at the Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississipp­i. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Friendship Baptist Church on Craig Springs Road with Rev. Dan Robertson and Rev. Tim Buchanan officiatin­g. Visitation will be the day of the service from 3 p.m. until service time at the church. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sturgis.

Valeria was born July 17, 1924, to Harmon and Willie Nation Shaw. She is a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Sturgis. For many years she brought comfort to those in her care at Starkville Manor Nursing Home. She enjoyed outside activities such as gardening; and she enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Valeria is survived by her daughter, Thelma Jackson; and two sons, Raymond Hickman and wife, Catherine, of Sturgis; and William Hickman and wife, Sherry, of Seagrove, North Carolina. She is also survived by her grandchild­ren: Douglas Jackson and wife Jodie, Stephen Jackson and wife Sandy, Ken Cater and wife Kim, Lisa Walker and husband Robert, Tonya McHann and husband Richie, Michelle Belk and husband Neil, Olivia Hickman, Clint Pugh and wife Candance and Heather Parrish, and husband Chris; twenty great-grandchild­ren and three great-great-grandchild­ren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law's: Coleen and Marie Shaw. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Pauline Thurmond and husband Mach; and her three brothers, William B. Shaw, Ervin O. Shaw and wife Mollie and John D. Shaw.

Serving as pallbearer­s are Matthew Belk, Ken Cater, Douglas Jackson, Stephen Jackson, Chris McHann, Josh McHann, Jimmy Shaw and Odie Shaw. Honorary pallbearer­s are Artis Davis, David Hammett, Donnie Hammett, Lee Harris, Rodney Murphy, Doug Shaw and Robert Walker.
