ICC's Hollenhead honored
FULTON – Itawamba Community College sophomore third baseman and former East Webster High School softball player Mamie Hollenhead was chosen a 2017 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II second team All-American late Thursday afternoon.
Hollenhead led the team with a.469 batting average and had a team-best 90 hits with only five strikeouts in a team-leading 192 at-bats for the season. She had 25 doubles, a team-high six triples, two home runs, and four walks to score 52 runs and drive in a team-high 71 RBI while successfully stealing 16 bases on 17 attempts. Hollenhead was second on the team with a .480 on-base percentage and a .693 slugging percentage.
Defensively, Hollenhead finished the season with a .971 fielding percentage with 65 putouts, 104 assists, and nine double plays and only five errors in 174 total chances.
Along with being selected NJCAA All-American, Hollenhead also earned her second National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American nod and South All-Region nods. She was picked to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges All-State first team and NJCAA All-Region 23 Team for the second straight year.
Hollenhead is the fourth Indian to earn NJCAA All-American honors in softball and the first since 2012 when outfielder Jessi Patterson was selected to the third team as a freshman. Other NJCAA Softball All-American selections include; outfielder Kimmy Nicholson (2011/Nettleton) and shortstop CeCee Austin (2010/Randolph).
She joins ICC football wide receiver Terry Williams in earning NJCAA All-American status this year and is the 55th student-athlete to be chosen All-American by the NJCAA since 1974.
