Bachman builds legacy at Volunteer Starkville
Jamey Bachman will officially start her new job on Monday at Mississippi State University, leaving behind a five-year legacy at Volunteer Starkville.
Under Bachman's watch, Volunteer Starkville grew exponentially, going from an agency partnered with 24 volunteer groups to being partnered with more than 200. The organization also became more financially sound and added some new events, including a family service day in November and a youth service day in April. The organization also has begun to serve in Clay and Winston Counties.
“It's been lots of things, rewarding, enjoyable, challenging, sometimes frustrating,” Bachman said. “Overall, very rewarding to me as a young professional.”
Bachman said one of her favorite parts of working with Volunteer Starkville was helping people in the community find ways to engage and serve.
She also said she was proud to have brought Volunteer Starkville from a struggling nonprofit to the thriving organization it
is now during her time leading it.
She is an MSU alumna with a bachelor's in landscape architecture and a master's in public policy and administration. Prior to leading Volunteer Starkville, Bachman worked as service learning coordinator for the Day One
Leadership Community Program at MSU. She is from Gloster, Mississippi.
In her new position at MSU, Bachman will serve as outreach coordinator for the Academics, Campus life, Community involvement, Employment opportunities, Socialization,
Self-awareness (ACCESS) Program for students with intellectual disabilities.
“I'm excited,” Bachman said. “It's going to be fun.”
Daphne Carrol Knox will replace Bachman as executive director of Volunteer Starkville.
